Description
The Paul Giraud VSOP Cognac is a wonderful example of how classically elegant a Cognac of this quality can be. Created solely from eaux-de-vie from the premier cru, Grande Champagne, you can enjoy this traditionally produced delight in a number of ways. It's delicious neat, perhaps in a balloon glass warmed gently in the hand in the time-honoured traditional manner. But it's also exceptional within a cocktail or with a mixer over ice. One of the reasons this is a stand out VSOP is because the age of much of the Eaux-de-vie within the blend is around 8 years, which is double the legal minimum. These extra years lead to a maturity seldom found in a Cognac of this level. Another talking point is that the house of Paul Giraud carries out their harvesting by hand–something rarely seen now in this age of automation and machinery. A great Cognac to own, and one that would be happily received as a gift by any lover of fine things. Nose: Earthy nose, with a touch of creaminess, slight grapiness. Palate: pleasant, light, grapy elegance of Cognac, light and poised, earthy-nicely, creamy, honeyed. For more from Paul Giraud, CLICK HERE

Paul Giraud

Paul Giraud is a long-standing family estate located in Bouteville, a small village in the heart of Grande Champagne. The family has been cultivating the land here since at least 1635, passing down both vineyard and tradition through generations. Their extensive stock of aged eaux-de-vie offers a full range of expressions for those who appreciate depth and character in their Cognac.

The estate produces only 100 percent Grande Champagne Cognac, with a focus on single vintage and single year bottlings. Heritage and Noblesse are the only exceptions, as carefully crafted blends. The vineyard spans 42 hectares, all planted with Ugni Blanc vines. Each parcel is located in Bouteville, growing on the chalky soils of Campanian and Santonian limestone that define the region's exceptional terroir.

For over 30 years, the Giraud family has quietly maintained a responsible and environmentally conscious approach to viticulture. Organic fertilisers are used in combination with traditional soil ploughing. Much of the vineyard is still harvested by hand, a method that has become increasingly rare in the Charentes. Today, only a small number of estates continue this hands-on tradition.

The result is a Cognac that speaks for itself, shaped by time, care, and a deep connection to place.
