Description

Armagnac Castarède, the oldest Armagnac House founded in 1832 presents you with an unusual cuvée. Florence Castarède has always participated in the cigar club and has realized that cigar and Armagnac belong together. Therefore, to meet cigar amateurs’ demand she came up with the idea of creating a special cuvée for them. Armagnac and cigar: It’s a long story, they are made for one another. Both are from a blessed terroir and human ingenuity. The production of a great Armagnac or a great cigar is the fruit of immemorial traditions and men’s labor who devote their lives to producing these precious things with talent. As Armagnac, the leaves of tobacco ripen in barrels and the fire is omnipresent during their creations. The House of Castarède offers you an amazing cuvée dedicated to cigars. We have selected an Armagnac with a lot of character, powerful, expressing its stunning terroir echoing cigars from La Vuelta Abajo. Tasting the perfect match between this Armagnac and cigars is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Alcohol degree: 44%
Color: Light amber and golden colors with topaz highlights clear.
Nose: Very rich but subtle with scents of verbena, orange blossom, and cherry kirsch. The finale is ending towards mint
Mouth: On the palate, the first sip is nervous but rich and intense starting out with almond aromas which come along with a hint of vine peach, yellow peach, and fresh tobacco. The finale is very persistent and is slowly melting on hints of candied mandarins and prune sauce. The bottom glass is very rich and fresh, still on the warmed prune and fresh herbs

Castarède

Mauléon-d'Armagnac

Armagnac

Castarède

Maison Castarède is a family-run Armagnac house with centuries of distilling history. It is located just south of the town of Mauléon-d'Armagnac, within the Bas-Armagnac subregion.

The Castarde estate features a 17th-century château, which has served as the site of distillation and aging since it was acquired by the family in the late 20th century.

The company began as an Armagnac négociant in the early 1800s under the name Jules Nismes Delclou & Cie. In 1818, the family was ennobled by Louis XVIII and adopted the Castarde name for the business, which became the first officially declared Armagnac trading house after being entered into the official trade register in 1832.

In the 1980s, the family purchased Château de Maniban, which has since become Castarède’s headquarters. The château and estate are named for their original owners, the Maniban family, who are credited with introducing the court of Toulouse to Armagnac.

The Château de Maniban estate covers 16 hectares (40 acres) of vineyards, primarily planted with:

  • Folle Blanche
  • Ugni Blanc
  • Colombard
  • Baco Blanc (introduced in 2015)

The vines grow in clay and loam soils that are rich in acidity and iron.

Distillation is carried out using a continuous alembic still that is over 50 years old. The freshly distilled eau-de-vie is first transferred into new French oak barrels for aging. After several years, the spirit is moved into older barrels for the remainder—and majority—of its maturation.
