Description

Volcanic Cane is a limited edition from the Haitian house Barbancourt.

Distilled in 2008, this rum is produced by distilling pure cane juice as a base. For this expression, the distillery only worked with one variety of cane. This is the endemic variety of the island of Haiti nicknamed Madame Meuze.

This rum has benefited from a long aging in old French and American oak casks of cognac and bourbon. After these 15 years, it underwent a specific refinement. This finish was done in casks that previously contained a peated whisky from the Isle of Islay.

This edition is limited to 4850 bottles worldwide.

Rhum Barbancourt was founded in 1862 by Dupré Barbancourt, a Frenchman who relocated to Haiti and applied the traditional double-distillation methods of his native Cognac to local sugar cane. Unlike the majority of Caribbean producers that distill from molasses, Barbancourt produces a Rhum Agricole by distilling fermented sugar cane juice and ageing it in French Limousin oak barrels. This heritage has been preserved by the Gardère family for over five generations, transforming the distillery into a symbol of Haitian national pride. Despite facing significant adversity, including the devastating 2010 earthquake and ongoing political instability, the brand remains an economic pillar in Haiti, sourcing cane from thousands of local farmers to produce its world-renowned portfolio, ranging from its versatile 3-star bottling to the prestigious 15-year Estate Reserve.
