Walnut kernels in liqueur are part of these somewhat special recipes, developed by us. The preparation of our kernels is artisanal: let yourself be surprised by the flavor of the kernel slightly candied, then dried in the sun. An artisanal recipe, a little treat to peck with your fingers at the end of a meal, or to slip into your pastries.

Just a few kilometers from Sarlat, on the road to the famous Lascaux caves, lies one of the Dordogne’s hidden gems: Distillerie La Salamandre. Founded in the 1960s by Raymond Gatinel, a passionate traveling distiller, this family-run distillery has been crafting traditional eaux-de-vie, fruit liqueurs, and brandies with heart and heritage ever since.

Born from the age-old ritual of winter distillations — when villages gathered around copper stills to warm the season with fruit spirits — La Salamandre continues this tradition with the same spirit of authenticity. Today, Jacques Gatinel, alongside his sisters, carries on the legacy, distilling only the finest local fruits using time-honored methods.

Step inside their world, and you’ll smell the fermenting fruit, hear the hum of the still, and taste the craftsmanship that comes from generations of dedication.
