Description

This bottling bears the phrase “Cépages Nobles” meaning “noble grapes”, a reference to the high-quality Folle Blanche and Colombard grapes used to produce this marvellous bottling. It is another in a line of excellent single vintage releases from the small-scale producer Domaine Boingnères. This is a distillery with an unerring commitment to quality, using the majority of their small 50 acre vineyards to grow the challenging, yet delicious, Folle Blanche grape. The same family has farmed this land since 1807 and is now in its 6th generation. Furthermore, the distillery refuses to use any caramel colouring or chill-filtration and is often bottled at cask strength. They continue to use traditional continuous alembics, which run non-stop during the 20 day distilling season. The Domaine often distils as low as 52%, meaning that no dilution is required before casking or bottling, and the maximum flavour is ensured. Maturation occurs in a small barn on the estate in French oak casks, some (like this bottling) resting for many decades. The resulting Armagnac is of the highest quality, with a breathtaking balance between delicious, oily, spicy fruit, and robust, decadent oak. A fantastic bottle from one of the best in the industry.

Colour: Quite intense but deep.

Smell: vast fineness of the nose, peach, grape, apricot and melon, darker undertones of chocolate and a limited flow of wood, plum and marzipan.

Mouth: dry, fruity, sweet and light and dark at the same time.

Armagnac

Domaine Boingneres

Armagnac Domaine Boingnères is located at Le Frêche, the heart of what used to be called “The Grand Bas Armagnac.”

The Domaine Boingnères is established on 21 hectares:

– 11 ha of Folle Blanche

– 6 ha of Ugni Blanc

– 4 ha of Colombard

It was bought by Jean Boingnères in 1807.

Léon Lafitte was the “soul” of the Domaine from 1953 to 1994. His passion and his intransigence for the quality of the Folle Blanche have made the fame of the Domaine.

Today, his daughter Martine has taken over the Domaine with the same passion.

Armagnacs from Domaine Boingnères are served on the most prestigious tables, in France and around the world, and are considered amongst the cognoscenti as one of the best Grand Bas Armagnacs, famous for their wide palette of aromatics — evolving in the glass hour after hour...
