Description

Roselle is the common name for Hibiscus Sabdariffa. It has a bright red calyx which adds colour and flavour along with 23 other botanicals including Australian natives – strawberry gum, Tasmanian pepperberry and salt bush. Its important bitterness comes from various roots, in particular gentian from Aubrac in the Centre of France. The wine base is from Heathcote grapes fermented as rosé, which is fortified with the unique blend of botanical tinctures . The residual sugar, from grapes only, is around 100 g/l, indicating a more Aperitivo style but it is very well suited as a Bitter, to the growing category of low sugar/low alcohol cocktail.

Serving suggestions :
Shaun would definitely have it in a Negroni whilst Gilles would hesitate between a Roselle soda for Aperitivo and neat as a digestive. Joseph Maiden would have agreed with the above, but is eagerly waiting for the 7 bartenders recipe .

About The Producer

Maidenii Vermouth is a collaboration between French wine maker Gilles Lapalus and Australian bartender Shaun Byrne. In the creation of Maidenii, they have sourced leaves, flowers, fruits, herbs, seeds, spices, and roots from the gardens of both the old world and the new. The vital components, wormwood, and wine, are plucked fresh from the colony of Victoria. Maidenii is named for British botanist Joseph Maiden (1859-1925), the original champion of the eucalyptus and the acacia. When Maiden first landed at the untamed colony of New South Wales in 1880, he could not have foreseen the wonders that awaited him. At a time when his peers saw only a barren and hostile land, Maiden was astounded at the botanical wealth he discovered and dedicated the rest of his life to studying and cataloging native flora. His passion for the botanical riches of Australia inspires the spirit of Maidenii.
