Description
Comte de Lamaestre Bas-Armagnac 1979 40% 700ml:
Colour: Amber
Nose: Mature smelling- almost smells like a an old full-bodied red - with coriander and toffee and ginger spice.
Palate: Savory and dry on the palate and with grip and chewiness and savoury nutty flavours
Cellaring: Ready, but will Keep
Notes: An intriguing and complex Armagnac.
Armagnac from the Bas region is considered to have the most finesse, also tending to yield spirits that are very supple in their youth. Plantings are mostly Bacco and Ugni Blanc. The Northwestern portion of the Bas-Armagnac (known casually as the Grand Bas Armagnac) has a concentration of quality producers, especially in the department of Les Landes.Deep polished copper colour. Exudes sweet aromas of dates, toffee apple, vanilla, chocolate and nutmeg. The palate is full bodied, plush and round with medium dry flavours of dates, cocoa and soft spice perfectly counterpointed by drying and slightly grippy tannins. Dried apricot, nutmeg and clove aftertaste reverberates with surprising length, echoing back minutes after the final sip. CLICK HERE to shop more Delord

Delord

Bas-Armagnac

Armagnac

Delord

Tucked away in the rolling hills of Bas-Armagnac, the Delord vineyards grow three classic grape varieties: Colombard, Ugni Blanc, and Folle Blanche. It’s here, in the village of Lannepax, the Delord family’s ancestral home, that their Armagnac story quietly continues.

Distillation, the soul of Armagnac-making, begins each year in early November and runs through to the end of December. Delord still use their beloved old Sier Armagnac alambics - traditional stills that gently produce less than 30 litres of eau-de-vie per hour. They wouldn’t trade them for all the gold in the world.

Their cellars hold more than 700 oak barrels, ageing precious vintages from the early 1900s right through to today. Decades of patience have built up an impressive reserve, allowing Delord to offer exceptional Armagnac at surprisingly accessible prices.

They favour a style that’s soft, rounded, and remarkably easy to drink — and it’s this approachable elegance that makes them one of the most respected producers in the region.
