Description

A worthy addition to HSE's long line of fine vintages, this 2003 single cask has had special attention lavished upon it by our cellar master in order to bring you a new balance between strength, roundness and aromatic complexity. Each bottled batch has been carefully selected from a single 400 litres French oak barrel, identified by the double numbering of the bottles. MASTER TASTERS NOTE The nose opens up to an explosion of aromas where the empyreumatic notes of cacao, coffee and Virginia tobacco blend with a fruity universe of prunes, quinces and cooked fruit. The round, generous mouth offers a gentle, elegant attack before extending into a long, fruity and delicately spiced finish.

About The Producer

Habitation Saint-Etienne (HSE) was one of the main Martinique's sugar factories during the 19th century. Converted as other sugar factories into a Rhum Agricole distillery at the end of the 19th century, its distillery activities were ended in 1988. Rum is since distilled at the Simon distillery not far from the Francois village. Blending, maturing and barrel ageing activities are still conducted at Habitation Saint-Etienne domain. The AOC Rhum Agricole de la Martinique restricts production to the short best season for the cane to pack aromas, compels that all and only the fresh juice of the cane be used, contrary to 95% of the world rums using the left-overs (Molasses, stalks) of the sugar refining industry. Agricole Rum belongs to the world of cognac or Armagnac, whenever Traditional Rum (also known as Industrial) is in the grappa / pomace world. Habitation St Etienne is famous for its Strong Bourbon cask finish but for unusual cask finish in Islay, Pedro Jimenez, Oloroso, Sauternes.
