We are bringing to Australia this very French specialty Rum from the small island of Marie Galante, and it is said to improve substantially gentlemen's performance, as per the label (and we quote):
“Generous & Virile. Gives strength to men, which pleases ladies and gives ladies the desire of this pleasure.”
This liqueur is known throughout the French West Indian islands for being related to the supposedly aphrodisiac ‘bois bandé (richeria grandis) tree. Liqueur Bois Bandé is made from Bielle rhum, sugar cane syrup and natural flavours.

This distillery, built on the side of a volcano in Martinique, produces one of the highest quality of Rhum Agricole around, with this bottling being no exception. This fabulous spirit has been finished in Calvados casks, the second in this series of bottlings. The result of this finishing process is a rum of extraordinary complexity. Calvados is a type of French apple brandy, highly valued for its clarity of flavour, with the cask being sourced from the famous Lecompte brand. Here the cask lends notes of bright fruits and tartness to the sweet, vanilla-rich and fragrant Agricole, produced from the fermented juice of the sugar cane. The spirit has been aged for 10 years, which is quite a while in the heat of the Caribbean, and produces a rum of surprising complexity. This rum has been bottled at 41.1% ABV. This is a single cask rum, with only 937 bottles available worldwide, meaning that drinkers should move fast if they want to try this tipple. The rum is presented in a frosted glass bottle with a handsome presentation box.

Barbancourt Rum 4 years, 3 stars. The Barbancourt family is of French origin, hence the spelling 'Rhum' on the label. Sugar cane grown at Domaine Barbancourt as well as other parts of Haiti is hand cut between November and June, then thrice milled, then fermented for about 72 hours with a proprietary strain of yeast developed in-house. Double distilled in a column still to 70% ABV, then second distillation yields a spirit of 90% ABV. The newly distilled liquor is diluted with water to 50% ABV before storing solely in French Limousin oak barrels and set aside for aging. After aging for 4 years in white Limousin oak, whose larger pores facilitate the exchange between the rum oxygen in the surrounding air, Barbancourt 4 year old rum possesses light delicate flavors. Fully enjoyable on the rocks or with a mixer. It lends itself to the best cocktails as well as in cooking recipes Barbancourt 3 Star is a delight amongst gourmets.

A Martinique rhum vieux agricole from Distillerie Neisson. The label is hand painted by Tatanka - a Martinique based craft company specialising in hand-painted art on a variety of media - who have been providing artwork for limited edition Neisson bottlings since 1996.
Jean and Adrien Neisson acquired their site in Le Carbet in 1922, building the distillery nine years later. It remains part of the family to this day, saved by Jean’s daughter Claudine, who quit her job as a hospital physcian to run it after his death. Her son Gregory is now its master distiller. He produces its esteemed agricole rum on the distillery’s single-column Savalle still, constructed back in 1938.

Before bottling, the rum is filtered to remove impurities and achieve color clarity. A brilliant mahogany amber color is but the first clue that Barbancourt 15 year old is an exceptional rum. Aromas include beautifully soft scents of caramelized brown sugar that manage to intoxicate without overwhelming your senses, a light molasses aroma adds depth of character, oaken vanilla and notes of dried fruits - raisin, dried apricot, orange - are evident, as is a slight cane earthiness, subtly spiced with clove and cinnamon. Those wonderful aromas prepare your mouth for a nicely complex suite of flavors delivered in direct proportion with those your nose detected, but smoothed with a touch more vanilla. A medium weight body integrates heavy alcohols well into the overall liquor, allowing the flavors spread slowly and elegantly over the palate. The finish is substantial and charismatically long; cocoa adds to the complexity, with a lasting sweetness in the throat.
