Tasting notes:
Colour: Amber, with a touch of old gold.
Aromas: Down among the flowers: touches of jasmine, clove pink, combined with the first flavours of fruits: peach, plums. The old maturation of this Cognac has given it its vanilla aroma and this light and sweet aroma that only an old Cognac has.
Palate: The outstanding touch for this Cognac XO is probably its great elegance which is one of the major characteristics of the « Premier Cru », fully represented here by the delicacy of aromas as well as the subtlety of its palate.

This 2013 vintage comes from distiller/farmer Victor Gontier, who’s located in the Domfrontais region.
According to the importers, “Long after the outcome of mobile phones, calling Victor Gontier on the only landline by their entrance door, one would enjoy a cacophony of chook noises , roosters calls, pigs squeals in the courtyard, confirming the authenticity of the place and thus of its production.”
The controlled Domfrontais appellation requires at least 35 percent pear juice, which gives a softer character and lends itself to quicker maturation.

Situated in Bas-Armagnac, Delord's distillery is to be found in the village of Lannepax, the ancestral home of the Delord family. They comment, "Our old Sier Armagnac alambics, that we wouldn't part with for all the gold in the world, produce less than 30 litres of eau-de-vie an hour. Our cellars contain our old treasured vintages and include more than 700 oak barrels that protect and age the Armagnac eau-de-vie dating from the 20th Century to the present day".
Produced from Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Colombard and Baco 22 A grapes.
Tasting note: Lovely gold ochre / bright copper appearance. Muted opening sniff yields a subtle fragrance of nougat and sweet spice. Further aeration stimulates notes of candied orange peel, vanilla and dilute maple syrup. A soft, round entry follows through to light to medium-bodied profile offering suggestions of light toffee, dried fruits and white pepper towards the finish which is dry and brimming with oak. Pulls up short. 40% Alc./Vol.

Mery Melrose is a modern, organic farmer making stunning Cognac from his small vineyard in Grande Champagne.
The VSOP is a generous beauty, elegant with a winning character. This Cognac has spent at least four and a half years aging in a combination of new and used French oak casks.
EYE: burnished gold color hints at the lush aromas and flavors to come from this spirit.
NOSE: the longer aging is immediately evident with notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and honey, but the wood is balanced with a lively expression of fruit. The scent of dried apricots and figs mingles with rose petals and gigerbread.
PALATE: the first sip saturates the palate with a soft, silky robe of warm spices and tropical fruits, with notes of brown sugar and persimmon emerging with successive sips. The long, fruity finish ends with a gentle sweetness reminiscent of ripe grapes.
Pairing: with fois gras, duck or pigeon.
