In Gascony, this grape is both used in distillation (over 50% of the distillation) and in the making of Cotes de Gascogne wines. It often brings balance and finesse. The nose is straightforward, moderately intense, smooth and very delicate, with typical aromas (grape, plum, quince) and more surprising ones (fresh cane, cane sugar). This Blanche is dry, without sweetness, silky and still very delicate. Beautiful aromas of bitter almond, vine flower and raisin reinforce this finesse. Very long on the palate. May be enjoyed on its own or as a long drink with combinations like cucumber, elderflower or orgeat syrup.
Darroze Blanche d'Armagnac 100% Folle Blanche 49% 700ml | Brandy | Shop online at Spirits of France
Darroze Blanche d'Armagnac 100% Folle Blanche 49% 700ml
$123.00
The Folle Blanche grape is the historical grape variety of Armagnac. For many years (even before the phylloxera crisis) it was the only grape variety planted in Gascony and was at that time known as the local Piquepoult. It produces very fine and delicate Armagnacs. The nose is very intense, very fruity (grapefruit, plum, fresh grapes) and spicy (Sichuan pepper). On the palate, this eau de vie is lively, precise, with aromas of fresh pineapple and mirabelle plum with vegetal notes. This could well be used as a variation in Martini dry, replacing the gin.

Francis introduced his own son Marc to the industry and they soon became known as the Armagnac 'treasure hunters'. Marc, who is the President of peak body the Bureau National Interprofessionnel de l'Armagnac, now runs the company himself. He offers the most diversity of any one house. Barrels are selected based on flavour from across the region and they are bottled at natural cask strength. No water or colouring is added.

The diversity in crus, vintages, grape varieties and styles has allowed Marc Darroze to work on his "Les Grands Assemblages" (The Great Blends), chosen for their complementary characteristics, the selected Armagnacs in each bottling are of different ages. After over four decades in 400-litre barrels, expect this to have evolved layers of sweet spices, candied fruits, rancio and super soft, round tannins.

The spectacular 50 year blend, in a stunning Carafe. The age of reason. According to the freshness and the balance of Armagnacs of this age, it is sometimes time, at the end of 50 years to stop the barrel ageing. However, the use of barrels that have been exhausted of their tannins over many years in contact with the eau de vie is still possible. The aromas of chocolate, leather and roasted notes are characteristic of these very old eaux de vie.

Polished copper / beams from the glass. Ideal clarity. A fabulous brandy bouquet opening with cigar box, prunes and hints of varnish. Expands with time in the glass adding suggestions of fig paste, nectarine, almond pastry, vanilla custard, black pepper and rancio. Entry is a little firm, oak-heavy, dry; countered by a burst of sweet fruits as the wood dovetails into fig, apricot, nectarine and vanilla. Climaxes in the aftertaste which sustains the flavours of the middle stage with extraordinary staying power. Resonates for 20 seconds plus. Even better after extended air contact. Outstanding. 49% Alc./Vol.
