Christian Drouin Le Gin Carmina 42% 700ml
$106.00
Calvados Christian Drouin keeps exploring new flavour associations. After launching Le Gin de Christian Drouin in 2015, the only Gin elaborated using over 30 varieties of cider apples and 7 aromatic spices, carefully selected for their perfect match with apple and juniper aromas, Guillaume Drouin signs a new blend devoted to red berries. The same principles have presided the making of Carmina as they did for the original version of Le Gin: each aromatic ingredient is macerated and then separately distilled to optimize the extraction of aromas. The distillates are then assembled before bottling.   Carmina has a summer-like bouquet. It mixes fruit and flowers, using not only juniper and Normandy cider apple varieties but also raspberries, blackcurrants, elder flowers, vanilla, lemon and orange. The packaging of Carmina respects the identity of Le Gin de Christian Drouin; however, the colour code is carmine as a reminder of the domineering aromas of this new gourmet gin with its hints of raspberries and blackcurrants.   Limited edition: only 8550 bottles will be marketed. Tasting advice: to be sipped neat or as a Gin Tonic, with a slice of lemon and a raspberry to decorate.   For more from Christian Drouin, CLICK HERE

As for the origin of the name Berthe de Joux, here is the explanation: Amauri III de Joux crossed paths around 1170. His wife, Berthe, barely nubile, waited several years for him when one evening, a wounded knight presented himself at the castle. It was the young Amey de Montfaucon, a very handsome boy if legend is to be believed, Berthe, who had no more news from the Holy Land and believing her husband had fallen under the blows of the infidels, consoled herself in the arms of that childhood friend. Returning when we were no longer expected, Amauri surprised the two lovers. Drunk with rage, he pierced Amey de Montfaucon with three sword blows and ordered that his body be hung on a gallows planted on the rocks of the "Fauconnière". As for the unfaithful wife, she was condemned to be locked up for her life in a tiny dungeon where she could only stand on her knees, facing a narrow slit offering for only show the naked body, dislocated and eaten by crows. of her beautiful lover. On the death of Amauri, his son, the young Henri de Joux, took pity on his mother whom he sent to end his days "amended" and repented at the abbey of Montbenoît. This late remorse near Amauri's tomb was perhaps not enough to appease the divine anger because, nearly eight centuries later, some practiced ears still hear, when the north wind blows at night near the entrenchment of Chauffaud, " Pray, vassals, pray on your knees, Pray to God for Berthe de Joux! »Fairy tale or true story? The Berthe's existence is attested in medieval charters. She still lived in Montbenoît in 1228. Amey de Montfaucon, or its namesake, Count de Montbéliard, lived in the 12th century. As for the place called "Fauconnière, it would take its name from Amey de Montfaucon ...

Chapoutier Marc Egrappe 20 years Cotes du Rhone 43% 700ml
$136.00
After maceration is completed, the marcs are pressed and conserved ready for distillation. We carry out our own traditional distillation using a hundred-year-old copper column still. A single batch distillation process is used to preserve the aromatic authenticity of the different Rhône Valley terroirs. The eau-de-vie (70% alc.Vol.) is then aged for 15 to 20 years in 228 litre barrels (pièces) and 600 litre barrels (demi-muids) made of fine-grained French oak which previously held our finest red and white wines. This ageing adds empyreumatic, spice and undergrowth notes to the elegant, fruity bouquet and the liquid takes on an intense golden colour with copper tints. On the palate, the fiery character gradually gives over to softness. Over the years, the gradual evaporation of the alcohol (the “angels’ shar”) results in a natural reduction of the alcohol to between 40 and 45% alc.Vol. This Marc Egrappé is a blend of eaux-de-vie de marc from our terroirs in the Northern and Southern Rhône Valley: Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, Châteauneuf-du-Pape...
