Grosperrin Cognac No.52-22 (Blend 1952 & 1922) Fins Bois 46.5% 700ml
$1,561.00
This rare Cognac comes from the commune of Brousse, near Matha, from a small farm. The current producer, born in 1952, still has cognacs distilled by his father and grandfather. It was only in 1950 that the property was equipped with a traditional 16 hectoliters still (Maresté), which then worked on wood (during the day, for the scrambles) and on charcoal (at night, for the good toast). ). Previously, as in most Charente estates, only a small boiler of 500 or 600 litres was used to distil the production of wines. This cognac is the result of the assembly of two batches, made on the advice of a great Cognac house, by the winegrower himself. The cognac was bottled in 2000. Tasting Notes: Straight and clean amount, the nose of old Fins Bois, with a delicate rancio, but what is striking is the intensity of the notes of red fruits, blackcurrant bud, redcurrant, cherry. The nose is of rare quality, with a complexity that cannot be forgotten. On the palate, the attack is straightforward, almost easy, unsurprisingly giving the spicy notes (sandalwood, cedar, pepper) one would expect from a cognac of this age. The surprise arrives immediately after, the first reassuring notes suddenly giving way to blackcurrant, to chiselled and captivating aromas, which suddenly burst, giving this cognac a whole new dimension. The finish is long and complex. Superb.

Grosperrin Cognac 1969 Petite Champagne 46.4% 700ml
$1,042.00
This vintage Cognac comes from a family of notaries established in Cognac for several generations. This 1969 Petite Champagne was part of the estate of the father, who had bequeathed his stocks to his wife and his son, a notary like him. The father had bought this lot in April 1970, thinking of reselling it at a better price a few years later, as was practiced at that time by a few well-informed individuals. Unfortunately, the oil crisis coupled with the end of the Vietnam War caused Cognac prices to collapse soon after. When he died, his wife and son did not get along, and the estate stalled for decades until we came up with a solution. Tasting notes: Amber color. A complex, rather classic Cognac. A late summer nose with notes of very ripe fruit, taped pears and prunes. Smoky touches, burnt notes and a Christmas Pudding side (candied grapes, orange peel, nutmeg). On the palate, power and freshness (lime blossom, hawthorn), which allows you to calmly approach all its complexity. A superb Cognac, for lovers of fine, natural classics. Gold medal , Cognac Master, London, 2015.

Gelas 1959 Bas Armagnac 40% 700ml
$1,751.00
Distilled in 1959 and bottled in 2018, this remarkable wood-aged spirit promises a sublime brandy experience. At around 50-60 years of age, the wood has infused its full quota of tannins and aromas to the liquid. At this stage, explains Gelas, the Armagnac is typically decanted into glass demijohns where it will continue to age in storehouses built by Baptiste Gélas in 1875. The period in glass continues to develop the brandy, helping to harmonize the aromas and preserve the characteristic rancio notes.

Grosperrin Cognac No 48 Borderies 46.8% 700ml | Brandy | Shop online at Spirits of France
Grosperrin Cognac No 48 Borderies 46.8% 700ml
$1,147.00
This very old cognac comes from a family of notaries who’ve lived since 1794 near the small village of Saint-Sulpice de Cognac, in a beautiful 18th century home. There are traces of the family dating back to the French Revolution, when the Mayor of the village left an estate to his family. The property had vineyards planted on the most exceptional hillsides of the Borderies region. It is one of his descendants who produced this beautiful cognac, on the land that once belonged to his father, to his grandfather, and even to his great grandfather… And Guilhem bought this single cask from his great-great-grandson. These very ancient cognacs, of which only a few hectolitres are left, have been passed on for four generations, inherited each time by someone in the same family. The estate stopped producing cognac in 1981. It is at this date that the distillery closed and that the vines were sold to big neighbouring estates. The family heirs have accepted this and today take the greatest care in preserving this exceptional heritage which is sleeping in the cellars built centuries ago by their ancestors. The colour is very amber. On the first nose, this cognac reveals discreet notes of violet (violet sweets…), of hyacinth and of tuber. These fragile and delicate notes are quickly covered by more powerful, almost spicy notes of dried flowers, leather, with pronounced rancio. On the palate, the attack is progressive; it is a testament to the great age of this cognac. The aromas of dried flowers, of old leather book covers and of spices immediately express themselves. The mouth is quickly seized by the spices and rancio, a token in itself of the authenticity of an old cognac. The finish is long, marked by a structured rancio along with notes of dried oranges and liquorice. An approachable cognac, despite being very “complete”.

Grosperrin 'Cognac De Collection' 1944 aged 60 years+ Bons Bois 42.7% 700ml
$2,528.00
This cognac comes from the family property of the cognac merchant who sold it to us. It remained in the same family for 60 years, stored at its original location, a huge paved cellar, until we transferred it to government-controlled cellars in 1999. The owner's chateau was occupied by the German Wehrmacht and the archives dispersed at the end of the war, making it impossible to prove it dates back to before 1944. The end of the war brought with it widespread pillaging, both by occupying forces and local inhabitants This cognac's lightness and delicate aromas make it atypical for its cru. It, therefore, most certainly comes from a limestone soil. Surprising vitality yet softness and roundness, and an unforgettable prune palate. This is proof that even smaller crus can produce wonders! Deep amber colour. The nose of very old Cognac, the finesse of rancio. On the palate, atypical in its vintage for its lightness and density. An astonishing vitality, all smooth and round as well as a prune mouthfeel that will stay in your memory for a long time. The "small wines" also have their wonders! 94/100, Livets Goda (Sweden, 2008). “ I have never tasted such an old Bons Bois before; there is a perfect resemblance to certain ports, but while still being able to deliver an almost unfathomable fruity freshness  ”. Drink Spirits (USA), 2011.
