This 700ml bottle contains a carefully crafted blend of rums from the JM distillery, which is renowned for producing some of the finest rums in the world. At 41.4% ABV, this vintage rum has a complex and refined flavor profile that is best enjoyed as a sipping drink. The nose is filled with notes of tropical fruits, vanilla, and oak, followed by hints of spice and caramel. Distilled the 5th October 1990. The rare single malt was distilled in Scotland in December 1990 and was then transported to France where it matured for more than 30 years. Over a quarter of a decade! The ageing took place in a single Oloroso sherry cask in a Burgundian cave - now that's not something you see every day.  Exceptional maturation, concentrated and elegant floral savours, subtle, without any alcohol feelings. Entirely crafted by Michel, Bere Barley is a wild variety of barley, sown and harvested in Orkney, floor malted dried in summer 1986, distilled the 19th November 1986 in Scotland. Michel dreamt to produce a low yield whiskey following the pristine process.  “Tri Juncta in Uno” (Most Honorable Order of the Bath Motto) is the Latin translation of “three in one”. Distilled in 1959 and bottled in 2018, this remarkable wood-aged spirit promises a sublime brandy experience. At around 50-60 years of age, the wood has infused its full quota of tannins and aromas to the liquid. At this stage, explains Gelas, the Armagnac is typically decanted into glass demijohns where it will continue to age in storehouses built by Baptiste Gélas in 1875. The period in glass continues to develop the brandy, helping to harmonize the aromas and preserve the characteristic rancio notes.

Luxury in Gascony, and in Armagnac, is fuelled by values anchored around sharing, transmission, respect for the artisanal product, the requirement and excellence. It is in this spirit that the house Darroze sublimates its Armagnacs from the most beautiful soils. From generation to generation, old Armagnacs are kept preciously in the cellars, packaged in Dame-Jeannes (large glass bottles of 30 to 50 litres). Wonderful Armagnacs, as rare as they are full of history. Marc Darroze, around the values of authenticity and excellence, wished to sublimate some of these treasures hidden in these limited series titled Luxe Gascon. Luxury in Gascony is represented by this ability that producers, pastoralists have to keep Armagnacs for decades. Finesse, authenticity, rarity, elegance are all words that characterise these Armagnacs packaged in crystal carafe specially produced to sublimate these exceptional products. Each batch is unique (only a few bottles), each decanter is numbered and accompanied by a certificate certifying the origin and respect of all the steps to testify this particular luxury.

This very old cognac comes from a family of notaries who’ve lived since 1794 near the small village of Saint-Sulpice de Cognac, in a beautiful 18th century home. There are traces of the family dating back to the French Revolution, when the Mayor of the village left an estate to his family. The property had vineyards planted on the most exceptional hillsides of the Borderies region. It is one of his descendants who produced this beautiful cognac, on the land that once belonged to his father, to his grandfather, and even to his great grandfather… And Guilhem bought this single cask from his great-great-grandson. These very ancient cognacs, of which only a few hectolitres are left, have been passed on for four generations, inherited each time by someone in the same family. The estate stopped producing cognac in 1981. It is at this date that the distillery closed and that the vines were sold to big neighbouring estates. The family heirs have accepted this and today take the greatest care in preserving this exceptional heritage which is sleeping in the cellars built centuries ago by their ancestors. The colour is very amber. On the first nose, this cognac reveals discreet notes of violet (violet sweets…), of hyacinth and of tuber. These fragile and delicate notes are quickly covered by more powerful, almost spicy notes of dried flowers, leather, with pronounced rancio. On the palate, the attack is progressive; it is a testament to the great age of this cognac. The aromas of dried flowers, of old leather book covers and of spices immediately express themselves. The mouth is quickly seized by the spices and rancio, a token in itself of the authenticity of an old cognac. The finish is long, marked by a structured rancio along with notes of dried oranges and liquorice. An approachable cognac, despite being very “complete”.

This cognac comes from the family property of the cognac merchant who sold it to us. It remained in the same family for 60 years, stored at its original location, a huge paved cellar, until we transferred it to government-controlled cellars in 1999. The owner's chateau was occupied by the German Wehrmacht and the archives dispersed at the end of the war, making it impossible to prove it dates back to before 1944. The end of the war brought with it widespread pillaging, both by occupying forces and local inhabitants This cognac's lightness and delicate aromas make it atypical for its cru. It, therefore, most certainly comes from a limestone soil. Surprising vitality yet softness and roundness, and an unforgettable prune palate. This is proof that even smaller crus can produce wonders!
