During the 18th century this elixir enabled Swedish doctor, Claus Samst, to heal the poor, vagrants, workers and anyone who had difficult lives. After much research and hours of hard work he compiled a manuscript describing 46 diseases that could be healed with this elixir. In 1821, Joseph Chavasse, founder of La Maison Dolin, saved the elixir from extinction by marketing it under the name “Suédois Dolin” in memory of the famous doctor. Its recipe has remained unchanged. The myrrh, the aloe, the gentian, the rhubarb, the orange and the agarics make it an excellent digestive. As an aperitif, it tickles the taste buds. Just a few drops in your cocktails, it brings original notes, too rarely found.

Dolin is among the few remaining independent producers of Vermouth and the last producing Vermouth de Chambéry, still made according to the principles which earned Chambéry France's only Appellation dâOrigine Controllée. Their bitters are the result of an infusion of herbs, aromatic plants and fruit in neutral alcohol and wine. Made to the same base of recipes since 1821, Dolin Vermouth de Chambéry has long been the benchmark for fine Vermouth. Inventors of the Blanc (White Vermouth), Dolin is equally famous for its very light, pale Dry. In the late 19th century, Dolin won medals in Paris, London, St. Louis and Philadelphia and in 1932 earned Chambéry France's only Appellation d' Origine for Vermouth. Dolin Vermouth de Chambéry is made of fine wines and botanicals found in the Alpine meadows above Chambéry (France). Together they impart a fresh and elegant nose, with a subtle and complex palate. Ideal as an aperitif or in cocktails.
